Hooray Lynn!

Watching “What Not to Wear” and I just love the woman on it this time, Lynn. I believe this is a rerun episode, not a new one, but I hadn’t seen it before.

She was someone I could really understand… long, long, beautiful hair (too bad, Nick!), and no interest in wearing makeup. (There is more where this came from … )

Using Hairsticks

I’ve recently discovered how delightful hairsticks can be for putting up my hair. No elastic to pull my hair, and they hold really well.

The challenge, however, can be in keeping the hairsticks from pulling painfully tight. For many styles, a single hairstick will hold the whole thing up. A second can tighten things up even further, but that can be the problem. Too tight means you might break or strain your hair; not exactly good when you’re going for length. The Basic Braid

Braids can be really easy to do once you know how, but it can take some practice to get the coordination and pattern down when you’re learning how, especially since you’re generally doing it behind your head.

The braid you see most often is the basic English braid. It’s really easy to do and a great way to keep your hair out of the way. I use it when I travel to keep my hair from tangling.

Brush your hair thoroughly. Separate into three sections. Comb smooth again if necessary, as sometimes hair tangles as you separate the sections.
Cross the section on the right over the middle section, so that it is now the middle section.
Pull all the sections to tighten the braid.
Cross the section on the left over the middle section so that it is now the middle section.
Pull all sections to tighten the braid.
Repeat until the entire length is braided. (There is more where this came from … )

A New Favorite Hairstyle

One of the fun things about long hair is how many different ways you can do your hair. I recently found a new favorite way to put my hair up that takes a little extra time, but I think feels very nice. It’s not that bad, maybe 15 minutes, and how many people do you know that spend at least that long on their hair every day? It’s called the Victorian, by the way. Quick Long Hair Styles

Long hair can be troublesome to style at times. There’s just so much to work with! However, that can also be an advantage.

While I do recommend avoiding the use of curling irons and such on long hair, as it causes damage, occasional use is fine. However, if it’s just a slight wave you need, wash and braid your hair, letting it dry in the braid. This takes hours, of course, and you may need to consider doing more than one braid if you prefer smaller waves, but is much easier on your hair than curling it.

Then again, you could just braid your hair and leave it in. French braids look good, but there are all kinds of ways to braid your hair, and they don’t have to take long.

A top knot is another hair style that you can either leave in or use to add volume to your hair without using a hair dryer. Yes, long hair styling can take some extra planning. However, for the health and beauty of my hair, I think it’s worth it.

Get some great hair accessories. One of my personal favorites is a mother of pearl ponytail holder I use when I put in a topsy tail. Finding good hair accessories isn’t easy, however, Amazon has a great selection of hair accessories.
