Shopping for Hair Accessories on eBay

I’ve recently had some fun picking up a variety of hair accessories on eBay. I used to think Amazon’s selection was pretty good, but eBay’s is amazing.

The majority, of course, are not my style. That’s going to be true for everyone, no matter your style. I’m not really into crystals and rhinestone, although I did select a bun cage that has a few rhinestones.

One trick to buying hair accessories on eBay is to check for more than one of the same item. Many items are one of a kind, but others are not, and you can check for one that no one else is bidding on. This lets you minimize your price.

A big thing to look for is the shipping cost. Most are reasonable about it, but sometimes you’ll see someone try to sneak in an outrageous shipping cost. Often this is combined with an absurdly low price for the item, in which case that’s where they’re really making their money.

I don’t mind paying a little bit for handling, since packaging does cost money, but it needs to be reasonable.

Expect to spend some time looking through eBay’s selection. Hair accessories are scattered through a few places. Most are listed under Women’s Accessories or Hair Jewelry, but if you do a search you will find them in a few other places.

Have a budget you are willing to spend that includes the shipping and handling costs. It is very easy to go overboard when you see someone outbid you on something you really, really want.

A great tactic if you are competing with someone else for an item is to bid as close as possible to the last minute of the auction. If your competitor is doing the same, this can extend the auction until you both quit bidding. The other hazard is that you can miss the last seconds of the auction and fail to bid.

Almost more important than what you think of the item you’re buying is the reputation of the seller. You want to deal with someone who has been selling on eBay for a while and has a great reputation.

I don’t rely only on the percentage of positive comments, but also on what they say. If the comments are little more than “great item” type comments. I like to see extremely excited comments and comments on the seller’s customer service.

Even negatives can be educational. Sometimes negatives don’t mean as much as you might think. If you’ve ever been in sales, you know how impossible some customers are. Other times, the negatives indicate a true problem that you should be aware of.

Once you get started searching eBay for your hair accessories, there’s one more problem… stopping!
