Olive oil is heavy enough that I leave it in for an hour or even overnight, then wash it out.

You can use plastic brushes, but they generally have very slight sharp edges that are bad for your hair on the bristles. That's why the boar bristle brushes are so much better for your hair... plus the boar's bristle really helps to move your hair's natural oils along the length of your hair, which plastic does not do well.

I use a hair oil called "Doo Gro" that I found at Walgreens in the ethnic hair section. I have thick, coarse hair, and it works wonders for helping with dryness. It also has a pleasant smell. You can also use it as a hot oil treatment.

I am 5ft 1 1/2 and my hair is down pass my knees. It is rather thick but probably not half as thick as it use to be when I was young. I am now 54 years old. I have used olive oil in the past on dry hair with much success.I would really like more tips on hair styles and hair holdres, clips, barretts etc. that will hold thick hair. I have a terrible time trying to find things that will hold and look nice. Any advice would be apprecited.

Making hair look less thin is a challenge, so I can see why you'd always want it in a bun.

One of the challenges to thin hair is that it takes so long to see if what you're doing is having any effect. If you try things that say they grow more hair for you, you'd have to go at it for months to really see what was happening.

Not to mention how often chemicals are actually bad for your hair.

Have you ever had the chance to consult with a stylist? If you still want long hair make that part clear or too many will suggest a very short haircut. If you can get the money together it might be a help. Just talk to the person before you trust him or her with your hair.

But even just a plain cut to the middle of your back may change your opinion of your hair a lot.
