Long Hair and What Not to Wear
One of my minor vices is watching What Not to Wear. I’m far from fashionable myself, but it can be interesting to see what they say about what people wear. However, the hair styling section can make me wince whenever they’re dealing with longer hair.
If you look around, you know that extremely long hair isn’t exactly the most popular style. It certainly isn’t popular with stylists. After all, long hair doesn’t require much cutting.
I don’t tend to agree with the assessment they always use that long hair tends to make you look older or isn’t flattering. Just watching how they move the long hair around in it’s most unflattering modes. You could easily get shorter hair to do the same. I don’t think it always looks thinner or whatever else they may say. Sometimes, yes, but not on every single woman.
OK, so many women do have trouble keeping their long hair attractive through the years. It can get scraggly and need a little more maintenance. I like to think I’m not fooling myself when I say I’m not there yet. I also think I’m a pretty good judge of hair, and I’ve some beautiful, long, grey hair. Not thin, not scraggly, not making the person look any older than having grey hair would do anyhow.
Yes, long hair does take some effort to make more lively, but from my personal experience men just adore a woman who dares keep her hair unusually long. You can’t tell me that it looks bad when there is so much enthusiasm for long hair from men.
Not only is my hair long, I have (horror of horrors) declined to start dying it as grey hairs appear. My hair is dark enough that they do show, too.
I love it when the person being made over has her own ideas about what she wants. I’m not into looking trendy, which is certainly a big thing on What Not to Wear.
I tend to be a bit unusual in my feelings about how I feel about aging. I’m not embarrassed by my age. I don’t see the need to hide it. I don’t wear makeup except on special occasions, I have no interest in dying my hair, having any type of plastic surgery or keeping up with the latest fashions. Just call me a geek.
